Yung Joc: Year in review
“Setting the pace is key. You can last longer if you set the pace.” – Yung Joc on longevity
Numbers don't lie. And in a year where some of your favorite emcees likes Ludacris and Busta Rhymes failed to make the soundscan grade, Atlanta born newcomer Yung Joc managed to sell over 800,000 units of his debut LP, New Joc City.

New album draws great critics and fans alike!
“PRESS PLAY,” the critically acclaimed new album from Diddy, makes a triumphant debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 this week, as well as topping the magazine’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Since its release on October 17th, “PRESS PLAY” has been earning rave reviews for its innovative sound and cutting-edge diversity. Diddy’s non-stop hard work – both in the studio and on the road – has paid off, as he has returned to the #1 spot following a five-year hiatus from his recording career.
Diddy: Criticism made me a better artist
To all the critics who think their snarky words fall on deaf ears, take heart: Diddy says he not only listened to past digs at his rap talent, but the criticism helped him make his best album to date with “Press Play.”
“Press Play” debuted at the top of the charts this week with approximately 170,000 CDs sold, the first time he’s been at No. 1 in almost 10 years. The album boasts an all-star list of collaborations _ including Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx and Nas _ and features a variety of new musical sounds from Diddy. He even sings on one track.
Diddy hits #1
The Bad Boy hit streak continues this year as label head Sean “Diddy” Combs’ solo album Press Play lands at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Album Chart.
The disc moved over 176,000 units in its first week, besting releases from Evanescence (The Open Door), JoJo (The High Road), Dierks Bentley (Long Trip Alone) and Ruben Studdard (The Return ).
Press Play number 1 album in Billboard Album Charts
Diddy’s Press Play is number 1 album in the Top 200 Billboard Album Charts. Diddy sold 176,332 albums. Number two this week was Evanescene with their album Wind-Up and they sold 107,435.
Danity Kane was this week number 34 with 23,123 albums sold last week. That’s only 8% lower than previous week. Their sales should make a boost when their new video is premiered.
Diddy does it again
Diddy's Bad Boy/Atlantic bow, Press Play, appears ready to top next week's HITS album chart, though the projected total of between 175-185k can't be considered a triumphant bow. His last album, 1999's Forever, sold 205k on its way to a total of 1.4m, back when he was still known as Puff Daddy. That's what our vast network of retail contacts around this wunnerful land of ours still taking our phone calls tell us, based on their own one-day sales reports.
Second week sales for Danity Kane
This is a good second week for Danity Kane. I though they would fall to more then 50 percent, but only fell 43 percent. There total sales so far are aroun 365,000 that is damn good. Joc is still doing solid numbers. He is on his way to plat. The bad news is Cassie is following off. Tommorrow, we will see where she is at when the official soundscan 200 gets posted on Urbanconnects and allhiphop.com.
Outkast and Danity Kane battle it out for #1
It’s a two-team race for #1 on next week’s album chart, with this week’s winner on the outside.
OutKast is off to a quick start, but look for a hard charge from out of nowhere, in this case R&B girl group Danity Kane, stars of the most recent installment of Diddy's MTV series, Making of the Band, in the race to finish first on next Tuesday’s HITS Top 50 album tally. And don't count out Christina Aguilera, either. Those are the findings based on a survey of first-day sales from our team of crack-smoking retailers around the country… Unh, we mean crack retail reporters.
Cassie hits #4 spot
Cassie sold 100k units and was premiered in #4 spot. What do you think about it?
Yung Joc stays on the grind
Holding on to the top three this week is Yung Joc, taking No. 11. The ATLien is getting busy Bad Boy style, scooping up an additional 43,000 units by way of his latest single “I Know You See It.” However, “It’s Going Down” is still moving, helping to bring Yung Joc City to 492,800 in total.
