8Ball & MJG put down pimps

Tennessee rap pioneers 8Ball & MJG are preparing to release their next album, Ridin’ High on Bad Boy Records this February.

The Memphis duo has already released their first single, “Relax and Take Notes,” which features Notorious B.I.G. and Project Pat. A video for the single, directed by Harve Pierre and Flyy Kai debuted on BET’s “Rap City” earlier this week.

“We never tried to keep up,” the group said via a statement.“We always just do us and you can call it what you want.”

Initially slated for release on July 18, the album was initially titled Pure American Pimpin’.

8Ball (born Premro Smith) and MJG (born Marlon Goodwin) began their career over 15 years ago. Their first album, Comin’ Out Hard, was released in 1993. Originally signed to Suave House, the duo signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment in 2002 and their first album at the label, Living Legends, is RIAA-certified platinum.

In 2005, the twosome was part of the all-Tennessee collaboration “Stay Fly” along with Three 6 Mafia and Young Buck.

Ridin’ High is 8Ball & MJG’s second effort on Bad Boy, however the duo has recorded eight albums, as well as solo projects.
