From Arista to Universal

In the Summer of 2002 Bad Boy broke all ties with Arista Records after releasing the last record on the label: ‘We Invented the remix’ and things were looking down for Puffy especially after the break up with the love of his life J-Lo aka Jennifer Lopez. However P. Diddy managed to retain not only his full roster: Loon, Black Rob, Carl Thomas etc. but also the whole back catalogue of hits that they produced which means the rights to all of the unreleased Notorious B.I.G. material for a future ‘Biggie Duets’ project and also the released hits which Diddy used for ‘Bad Boy’s 10th Anniversary Greatest Hits’ and he brought them all to their new home with a massive distribution deal with Universal records.

Universal have agreed not only to distribute all of the Bad Boy Records latest albums but also help promote and market all of their acts. Diddy couldn’t have been more happy about his new found deal made in Feburary 2003:
‘It was important for me to have the opportunity to grow Bad Boy and I can do that with the music industry's number one music powerhouse. This is a perfect situation for me and Bad Boy and I can't wait to get out there and start making music history.”
He’s already started doing that by bringing back his old friend Ma$e from retirement to priesthood, signing legends New Edition to the label, producing the biggest selling soundtrack: Bad Boys II The Soundtrack as well as many more Gold and Platinum hits.
